Almost exactly one year from the day that Miah fell from the monkey bars and broke her arm, Ellie fell from the monkey bars and broke her arm! Those monkey bars are mean! This is Ellie at the ER. Her left arm is the broken one (under the blanket) and her right arm is splinted so the IV doesn't move around. She has a blood smear on her cheek because it was a compound fracture (not fun). This half smile is after the pain meds started working. Thank heavens for pain meds!!
They sent her in for surgery that night to correct the break and to clean the open wound and stitch it up. This is right after surgery at midnight, trying to wake her up. Poor thing!
The next day there were 3 kids that couldn't wait to visit her in the hospital but right before they got there Ellie fell asleep. We took the picture to show her that they had come and they all wrote her notes on the white board to let her know how much they loved and missed her!
The reason that she had to stay in the hospital was because the needed to give her 48 hours of IV antibiotics to make sure that there wouldn't be infection in the wound. This picture is day number 2. It was a big deal to get her up, dressed, hair brushed and unhooked from the IV for a while to go explore the fun children's hospital.
We were discharged from the hospital Sunday morning but by that point Ellie didn't want to leave! The hospital is like a museum with so many things to do. She got her face painted, had some doggy visitors, took walks in the courtyard, visited the library and more! I, on the other hand was very ready to go home!
And now, here she is one week after the fall. She got her pink cast on today and so we went to the kids school to have our friend Ms. St. John paint it for her. I thought it turned out so cute!
That sweet smile tells me that she's going to be just fine. The cast will come off in 5 more week, just in time for Summer.

Oh Sheryl I hope everything is okay....When Jessey's cast came off after her accident she couldn't straighten her arm all the way and therefore we had to do therapy for almost a year!!!! It took that long for her to fully recover! Anyway Ellie is a doll and she looks like a fighter! Good luck!
Oh man she looks cute in that last picture! I'm glad she's doing so well.
So Karras comment was helpful! That stinks. It's good she gets it off before summer. Maybe you should outlaw monkey bars, just an idea. Take care!
